In this presentation, San Diego County Master Food Preservers will give us an overview of the history of spices and share best practices for properly preparing, storing and preserving the spices and herbs you use for optimal freshness and flavor. Learn how to reduce food waste while amplifying your dishes!</p><p><b>Presenter Bio: </b>You’ve heard the expression “the spice of life,” but do you know how to get the most out of the spices and herbs you use? The innovative Master Food Preserver Program established by the University of California Cooperative Extension launched in San Diego County in 2021. The mission of the MFP program is to extend research-based information about home food safety and preservation to the public in an effort to reduce food waste and insecurity by sharing food resource management skills.</p><p>Carlsbad City Library’s Grow Your Garden program lets you swap succulents, seeds, fruit, vegetables and herbs from your garden with your neighbors and learn new gardening techniques.</p></div><p>Grow Your Garden: 10 a.m. to noon</p><p>Workshops: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.</p><p><strong>Official Sponsor:&nbsp;</strong>Carlsbad Community Gardens Collaborative</p><div></div>
