Genealogy Program Meeting (Faraday Center)

American Warp, Jewish Weft: Weaving Jewish-Specific Sources With Traditional Genealogy

Presented by Jane Neff Rollins

Speaker will present remotely / Presentation will be recorded

To conduct a reasonably exhaustive search and meet the Genealogical Proof Standard, a Jewish genealogist must consult Jewish-specific as well as traditional genealogical sources (vital records, censuses, etc.) to document kinship and incorporate social history. Examples of traditional genealogical records and Jewish-specific sources that may document the same or supplemental facts will be incorporated. Jewish-specific issues to be covered will include onomastics (naming patterns), midwife and mohel (ritual circumcision) registers, ketubot (wedding contracts), cemeteries and Hebrew tomb stones, and Jewish community directories, newspapers, and soldier questionnaires.

The Genealogy Program Meeting is a partnership program between Carlsbad City Library and the North San Diego County Genealogical Society. This program features speakers with expertise on various issues relating to genealogy.

The program is held the fourth Tuesday of the month from January through November and is presented in person and virtually.

  • Doors open at 9:30 a.m. for social time.
  • Presentations, including question-and-answer sessions, are held from 10 – 11:30 a.m.
