Hands-On Archaeology

Dig into San Diego's unique history through storytelling, hands-on activities, and real artifacts with the San Diego Archaeological Center. Archaeology, the study of the ancient and recent human past through material remains, helps us understand how people lived in San Diego County for the past 12,000 years. Experience pieces of the past yourself at our bead carving and pot making workshops and dig even deeper in a lecture introducing archaeological principles, methods, and discoveries. These programs will support Native American Heritage Month by connecting patrons of all ages to the human history of the San Diego region and are suitable for audiences ranging from K-6 up to teen & adult programming. See the program schedule below for more information.

The San Diego Archaeological Center is a nonprofit curation facility and museum where visitors can learn the story of how people have lived in San Diego County for the past 12,000 years. In addition to its role as a museum, the Center serves as an education and research hub and is the primary organization dedicated to the collection, study, curation and exhibition of San Diego County’s archaeological artifacts.
