Learning From Members (Faraday Center)

Four Ways to Access Digital Images on Family Search

Presented by Mary Van Orsdol

Speaker will present remotely / Presentation will be recorded

The FamilySearch.org launched in 1999 and ever since has constantly developed and changed both in content and functionality. In 2021, FamilySearch completed digitizing all of its microfilm and now captures all new materials digitally. In January 2025, it reported having 5.59 billion digital images. Searching through these digital images can be a daunting task. Mary will demonstrate four very different ways to access these images and will explore the strengths and weaknesses, ease and difficulty, pros and cons of each method.

Learning from Members is a partnership program between Carlsbad City Library and the North San Diego County Genealogical Society (NSDCGS). Participants will learn about various genealogy topics and tips through these presentations offered by members of NSDCGS.

The program is held the second Tuesday of the month from January through November and is presented in person and virtually.

  • Doors open at 9:30 a.m. for social time.
  • Presentations, including question-and-answer sessions, are held from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
